Biography
Varun is a Principal and supports Wellington Partners in managing its investments in STipe, MinervaX, Confo, ImCheck, iOmx, Quanta and TRiCares. Since joining the team in 2018, he has taken a leading role to define Wellington’s early-stage investment strategy and deal sourcing. Besides his activities at Wellington, Varun is actively involved in the European Life Science start-up ecosystem, mentoring multiple early scientific projects within SPARK-BIH, Berlin and EIT Health Wild Card.
Before joining Wellington, Varun worked as an Intern at Ysios Captial, Barcelona, Spain, where he was involved in several investment processes including Galecto Biotech. Prior to that, he supported the investment team of Forbion, Amsterdam/Naarden, The Netherlands.
Varun holds a MSc in Medical Biotechnology from the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, India, and an MBA from IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain. He was awarded a PhD with Summa cum Laude in Neuroscience from the Freie University of Berlin for his work on polyamine-mediated suppression of age-associated memory impairment, culminating in articles published in Nature Neuroscience, PLOS Biology and Autophagy. Varun is recipient of numerous academic awards, including Indian Council for Medical Research Fellowship, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Fellowship.
